Apple announces new projects to combat climate change

Apple shared new data about the company’s achievements in the field of environmental protection. In Cupertino also spoke about the initiatives which by 2020 will help to avoid the emission of 20 million tons of greenhouse gases, the equivalent damage of 4 million cars a year.

Apple has had great success in the fight against climate change. To date, 87% used Apple energy worldwide comes from renewable sources, while in 2013 the figure was 73%. Apple’s goal is 100 percent procurement of all businesses and buildings of the company by energy from renewable sources. For the first time in the history of all Apple retail stores in the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy, the USA and Australia already 100% provided with energy from renewable sources.

“Climate change has become one of the biggest challenges of our time. And now is the time to act, said Apple CEO Tim cook. – The transition to a new green economy requires innovation, ambition and determination. Apple hopes to offset the energy used by suppliers through the creation of new solar power plants that will produce over 200 MW of energy in the Northern, Eastern and southern parts of China. And this figure is equivalent to the energy used 265 000 houses in China during the year.

In Apple believe it stimulates production partners more careful with energy consumption. The plan working with suppliers involves the construction of clean energy facilities. For example, by 2018, Foxconn plans to complete construction of solar power plants with a total capacity of 400 MW, which can cover the needs of the company’s plant in the province of Jangsu involved in the Assembly of the new iPhone.

In addition, Apple has announced the completion of construction of 40 MW of solar power plants in Sichuan province, is capable to compensate the energy consumption of 19 Apple offices in China and 24 retail stores.
