6 reasons why we should not rush to update to Windows 10

July 29 will be the next version of the operating system Windows 10. Users of Windows 7 and 8.1 in 190 countries will be able to update it for free. A tempting offer. However, according to Lenta, there are at least 6 reasons not to rush to “release” and wait for the following assemblies novelties.

1. On some devices, Windows 10 will only installs from scratch

To install Windows 10 you need around 3 GB of memory on the hard disk. Many devices that do not have enough memory to store user data, will not allow to replace the old version of the operating system to the new one. Instead, you will be asked to “clean” installation, in which, naturally, will not preserve your personal files and settings.

If the desire to upgrade is not lost, but only grows, when installed from scratch it is better to attend to the preservation of not only personal files, but even settings. Well at least try to remember their preferences, after installation of Windows 10 to spend just a few minutes to restore the usual interaction with the computer. All that can be migrated to the cloud, need to move.

2. You can lose your personal files

No matter how easy or promise to make the process of transferring personal data and settings when you upgrade the system, however, always remains a tiny percentage of failures. Rarely, but it happens that everything goes wrong, and support professionals only wonder “how such could happen?”

When you upgrade the same as when you install from scratch, is to attend to the preliminary saving all that has value. Ways to do this, invented mass — from external media like flash drives and hard drives to cloud-based services that saves among other things, the settings and the databases of individual applications.

3. Forced update

This operating system updates itself, and it does not tolerate waiting. Windows 10 does this each time it receives a signal that it can be done. If other operating systems are allowed to wait before you upgrade, read other users ‘ comments about the quality of a new build, in which case nothing like that. Installing Windows 10, you become a user, who is waiting for every new patch. Those who are regularly, though not by choice, wondered whether all have one or another error. And those who are struggling in hysterics due to the fact that some programs or even periphery “fell off”.

4. Lack of drivers

Every new operating system is, as a rule, new drivers, used different components of a computer and external devices.

Here two problems. If it is a relative novelty, the driver for it in Windows 10 will appear. But perhaps not so soon as we would like. If the device or component is pretty outdated, is to wait for the update is not necessary, it is better to choose in the store for a replacement, which is guaranteed supports with a fresh OS.

5. You can’t just “roll”

The update to Windows 10 from scratch is a ticket to one end. A month later, the operating system will not allow to go back to 7 or 8.1, with which you, possibly, it will pass. So if you still decide to do it, better to go to the trouble of creating a complete copy of the old operating system. One of the most commonly used solution to this challenge is to create a disk image.

After updating to Windows 10 all the new files it’s better to save either in the cloud or in a specific folder. “Rally”, it will be possible to move this folder or connect to cloud storage, and just continue working.

6. Year to update

Remember: whatever might sing praises to themselves, the developers, the updates remain a risky process. You might want to prepare, you need to understand all of their negative consequences to consider every little thing that can happen.

Do not rush because Microsoft ensures full support for Windows 7 and 8.1 is still quite a long time and a free upgrade to Windows 10 will be over a year since its release on 29 July 2015.
